Use Clarity Suggestions
The ✦ Clarity tab in the Categorization modal surfaces AI-proposed categories for unfinished rows. The rule: let it handle the obvious ones, keep your own judgment for the rows that matter most.
What Clarity Suggestions Are
Clarity suggestions are the system's best guess about how a transaction should be categorized — based on merchant patterns, your prior categorization history, and transaction context.
They appear in two places: directly on individual rows in the modal, and in the Clarity filter tab which gathers all AI-proposed rows into one focused view.
Open the Categorization modal and click the Clarity filter tab to see all AI-suggested rows collected in one place.
Suggestions are most reliable on recurring merchants — subscriptions, payroll deposits, known grocery stores — because the system has a strong pattern to match against. One-off or vague descriptions get weaker suggestions; those deserve more scrutiny.
For each suggested row, ask three questions before you click:
- Does this match what the row actually was?
- Is it routing to the right lane — Personal Category vs. Business/Special Label?
- Would I want every future row from this merchant treated the same way?
Try the demo below — accept the suggestions that look right, override the ones that don't:
Note the last row — MISC TRANSFER 4821 with a $500 Business Expense suggestion. A vague description + large amount + business label = a row that deserves manual review, not a quick accept.
If the suggestion is correct — right Personal Category, right Need/Desire direction, right business routing — accept it and move on. This is where Clarity earns its name: it makes the obvious rows faster without asking you to give up control.
If the suggestion is wrong, correct it. The system learns better from truth than from your politeness.
The Clarity filter tab collects all AI-suggested rows into one focused view — separate from Uncategorized, Income, and Expense. Use it when you want to:
- Handle all AI-proposed rows as a dedicated session
- Compare similar suggestions side by side before deciding
- Decide whether Accept All is safe for this particular batch
