Use Bulk Apply
Apply to Selected is the fastest way to categorize a batch of identical transactions — subscriptions, recurring merchants, payroll rows — in a single move. The key is selecting the right rows first.
Why This Feature Matters
Bulk Apply is one of the biggest time-savers in the Categorization modal.
It is also one of the easiest ways to make ten mistakes at once if you use it before confirming the pattern is actually the same across every selected row.
Use the row checkboxes (Column 1 in the modal) to select only the transactions that truly deserve the same treatment.
Good bulk-apply candidates share a real pattern — not just a surface resemblance:
- 🔄Repeated subscriptions (Netflix, Spotify, SaaS tools)
- 🏪Recurring charges from the same merchant, same purpose
- 💰A batch of identical deposits (payroll, ACH batch)
- 📝Rows that all share the same Memo or Need/Desire treatment
Once the right rows are checked, click Apply to Selected. This opens the bulk action panel where you can set values for all checked rows at once.
Try it below — check the rows that belong together, then watch the Apply to Selected panel appear.
Leave any field blank to skip it — only filled fields will be applied.
The Apply to Selected panel exposes only the four bulk-editable fields in the modal. You do not have to use all of them — only fill in what you want copied:
Date, Description, and Amount are never touched by Bulk Apply — those come from your bank data and stay locked.
Before you click the final apply button, pause and ask:
- Do all selected rows really belong to this Personal Category?
- Should they all have the same Need/Desire choice?
- Would the same Memo make sense across every one of them?
If the answer is "not quite" for even one field, stop and narrow the selection. It is faster to un-check two rows and re-run than to fix a blanket mismatch afterward.
Once you are confident, apply the changes. Then immediately scan the rows to confirm the result looks right before moving to the next cluster.
This one-second scan is the difference between a clean batch and a problem you discover three months later in a report.
Best Uses for Bulk Apply
Bulk Apply is strongest when the repetition is real, not assumed.
